Overview

This bracelet has been made from 11 gold medals which were won by George Vile at butter and cheese exhibitions held throughout New Zealand in the 1920s. George worked in the dairy industry in Eketahuna, Golden Bay and Taranaki. His niece June Humphreys recalls visiting as a child and her uncle bringing home 'some nice cheese and also specimens in small magnifying glasses'.

Competition for the best butter and cheese would have been fierce - in 1920 there were about 600 dairy factories in New Zealand.
