Overview
This poster calls for people to join a demonstration against the visit of French Prime Minister Michel Rocard to Wellington, New Zealand on 29 April 1991.
The protest was against French nuclear testing in the Pacific. Between 1966 and 1996, France carried out about 190 nuclear tests at Moruroa and Fangataufa atolls in French Polynesia. These caused reef damage, landslides, subsidence, radioactive emissions, and fish poisoning.
Community spirit
The poster is interesting for its sense of humour and community spirit - not only was there to be a deadly serious demonstration - live entertainment was provided for the crowds turning up to demonstrate.
