Legalise Love Waikato; commissioner; 2013; New Zealand
Overview
This tattoo transfer was sent to Minister of Parliament Louisa Wall by Legalise Love Waikato in thanks for her sponsoring of the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Bill.
Legalise Love was established in New Zealand in August 2011 to support marriage equality in New Zealand (there were three branches: Waikato, Auckland and Wellington).
Legalise Love was part of the Campaign for Marriage Equality, a nation-wide coalition of supporters and groups to promote marriage equality in New Zealand. The Civil Union Act 2004 had achieved partial equality only.
On 17 April 2013 the House of Representatives voted in the third and final reading in favour of the Bill by 77 to 44. On Monday 19 August 2013 everyone became equal under New Zealand's marriage law, with the first GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) marriages taking place that day throughout New Zealand, including at Te Papa.
