Overview

Background

This 'ei (head piece) was made in Auckland, New Zealand by Niuean Matafetu Smith.

Construction

The 'ei is made from plant material and has been dyed in pink and varied purple colours. The rosettes are made up of the dark purple strips, with supporting floral greenery. These are all attached to a band wrapped with black plastic ribbon material.

Acquisition History

This object was purchased by Te Papa Pacific Cultures staff at the 2013 Pasifika Festival held in Auckland City, New Zealand.
