Background
This 'ei porapora (head piece) was made in Auckland, New Zealand by Cook Islander Edward Dean in November 2012.
Construction
The 'ei is made from predominantly blue and white plastic ribbon wrapped around wiring. The desgin features individual flowers that consist of a single plastic pearl, and its leaves are attached with more pearls. Each flower has been bound to the main circular band, which can be worn on one's head or as an added feature of a hat.
Acquisition History
This object was purchased by Te Papa Pacific Cultures staff at the 2013 Pasifika Festival held in Auckland City, New Zealand.
