Gold-Brown Silk Dress (Bodice and skirt)

The dress is made from a mid-brown silk featuring a fine black cross-hatched pattern, and gold velvet detailing.

The long-lined bodice is fitted, and flares at the back and features boning. The sleeves finish in a wide, angled velvet cuff decorated with five dark brown fabric covered buttons and trimmed with cream, machine-made lace. The bodice fastens at centre front with 13 functional buttons and a hook and eye at the neck, which is trimmed with cream lace. The two central panels of the bodice are velvet. The bodice features a small patch pocket at the wearer's left hip.

The front of the skirt features five vertical inserts and a decorative chevron pattern in the velvet. The silk has also been horizontally pleated for decorative affect. The back of the skirt is shaped to balloon over the bustle and  down the back which is adorned with a velvet bow and two wide horizontal bands of velvet.

Both the bodice and skirt are lined with a gold coloured cotton.
