Overview
These few pieces of plate armour, forming the breast and back plates and the remains for pieces for the arms and shoulders, are believed to have been a gift of a suit of armour from King William IV (1765-1837) to the Ngā Puhi chief Tītore in the year 1835. It was presented to Tītore in acknowledgement of his provision of kauri spars for ship building to Captain Sadler of the HMS Buffalo, together with a personal gift of a mere-pounamu (greenstone hand weapon) and two 'garments' to be presented to King Willliam.
