Overview
This Red Ribbon brooch was produced by WORLD fashion house in tribute to its original designer who had died of AIDS in the mid 1990s. It was released for World AIDS Day on 1 December 2009 to benefit New Zealand AIDS Foundation HIV prevention initiatives.
World AIDS Day has been observed on 1 December since 1987. The day is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. Many countries, including New Zealand, hold memorials to honour those who have died from HIV / AIDS. Governments also observe the event, often with speeches or forums on AIDS topics.
The Red Ribbon is the global symbol for solidarity with HIV-positive people and those living with AIDS.
