Overview
Female condoms were a 1990s innovation. Like the male condom, the woman’s version protects against HIV and STIs (sexually transmitted infections), but the decision to wear it is hers.
These early versions rustled during sex in an off-putting way. A new, quiet version made from nitrile polymer was approved for use in New Zealand in 2014.
