Overview
This unusual pendant made from serpentine stone is characterised by a single median ridge with concave faces on each side ending in a terminal point. The pendant has two suspension holes, and its outer edges have been incised with tiny notches giving a serrated appearance.
Usage
This large stone amulet was worn at the neck on a cord threaded through the bored holes. One side is flattened to lie against the wearer's chest. New Zealand's first settlers, who came from East Polynesia, brought this shape with them across the Pacific.
