Overview
This 'Deceased Man's Kit' label was used by the British and Imperial Armies to identify the personal belongings of deceased soldiers during the First World War.
The obverse reads 'O.H.M.S. [On Her Majesty's Service] Deceased Man's Kit'. It lists the following fields to be filled out: army number and rank, name, unit (of the deceased soldier). The relevant fields for the despatching officer are below: name, rank and unit. A vertical navy blue stripe runs through the middle and the fields on the front are blank, however, the hand written inscription on the label's reverse suggests the label referred to Private A. Ward, 6th Field Ambulance.
