Overview
This is a local example of a practice widely followed by many New Zealand workplaces, clubs and other bodies of commemorating their members who served and/or died on active service during WW1.
The 'Orphans Club' was an entertainment and charitable body active from around 1910 till the 1950s. It attracted some of Wellington's socially prominent men of that era, some of whose names are commemorated on this Roll. The Roll illustrates the sense of pride that men of this social class and their associates took in their war service.
