Overview
This used Copper-7 intrauterine device (IUD) was collected by Dame Margaret Sparrow during her career as a Family Planning doctor in Wellington, New Zealand.
She collected it partly to assess how it had performed. This particular IUD has suffered distortion of its arm, and was removed with difficulty.
The Copper-7 IUD was used in New Zealand from 1974 to 1986, when it was withdrawn because of lawsuits.
