Overview
A cervical cap acts as a barrier to sperm. It fits closely over the cervix and is held in place by suction. It must be used with a spermicidal cream or jelly.
Rubber caps were introduced after the vulcanisation of rubber in 1844.
Dumas was one of the major cap brands to be sold in New Zealand. However, diaphragms were more popular here than cervical caps.
