Black cast-iron pot, circular, rounded bottom, two flattened sides, two handles.
Trypot: "Large iron pot used for boiling oil from the blubber' [Lytle, p 191].
See also Lytle, pp161-162: "Try-pots were large cast-iron kettles in which the blubber was tried out. Usually two, and in the early years sometimes three, pots were positioned side by side in the tryworks on the deck of a whaleship. [NOTE: tryworks (hearth-type structures) were also built at shore whaling stations]. The trypots were normally made with two flat sides to allow them to be positioned closely side by side in the brick structure of the tryworks"
