Overview
This is a photograph of another, older photograph - the tear down the centre of the original photograph is clear in the image. It depicts a group of about twenty-seven people, mostly Maori men, but a few women and Europeans are present. Most of them are standing in a row in front of a small raupo whare (house), but a small group form a second row, sitting on the ground. One man sits on a chair at the left end of the seated row, holding a walking stick, and with a pipe in his mouth. Most of those present are dressed in European clothing, but a few are wearing hieke (flax fibre capes), or blankets. The photograph is mounted on card.
