Overview
Cabbage Patch Doll
Cabbage Patch Kids started out in 1976 as ‘Little People’, adoptable dolls hand-made by Xavier Roberts, a 21 year old American art student. He combined his interest in sculpture with quilting skills passed down from his mother, to create his first soft-sculpture dolls.
In 1982 Original Appalachian Artworks, Inc. signed a long term licensing agreement allowing the production of toy replica dolls, like this one. At the same time, the name Little People® was changed to Cabbage Patch Kids® which is now used for both the toys and the hand-made originals.
