Model Airplane

This 1960s model airplanewas manufactured byFaller, a German company who specialised in model trains and airplanes. This particularmodel isbased on a Vickers Viscount 814 aircraft and has the Lufthansalivery on it.In New Zealand several Vickers Viscount aircraft were used byNew Zealand's National Airways Corporation, the national domestic airline of New Zealand from 1947 until 1978.

Children and adults have been making replicas of aircraft since their invention. Meccano introduced a series of airplane constructor kit sets in 1931 from which anumber of different types of airplanes could be built.Marklin in Germany also made constructor kits but most of these depicted military aircraft. Since then, model aircraft have closely followed changes and developments in aviation.
