Paul Hartigan; maker/artist; 1974; Auckland
Overview
Snake Studios was established in Auckland by artists Paul Hartigan and Philip Peacocke in 1974 to design and print fabrics. They were inspired by Andy Warhol's Factory in New York.
Every year from 1974 to 1978, Snake Studios produced a Happy Christmas print limited to 50 copies to give away to clients, family and friends as gifts.
This handkerchief (or fabric print) was the first to be made and illustrates Paul Hartigan's skill as an artist. The fourteen colours of the print also demonstrate the technical abilities of Snake Studios.
