Poster, 'Xth British Commonwealth Games'

This poster promotes the sport of running, one of nine sports played at the 10th British Commonwealth Games held in Christchurch, New Zealand from 24 January to 2 February 1974.

There were nine posters altogether designed in the four official colours of the Games. The resulting electric colours required four printing plates using contour-line films made from original black and white photo collages. In the top left corner is the iconic 'NZ' logo by Colin Simon - it is instantly recognisable, and has been reiterated in popular culture many times since 1974.

The 1974 Commonwealth Games were named 'the friendly games' and remain New Zealand's favourite international multi-sport hosted event.
