Overview
This epaulette provided ornamental detailing on the shoulder of the uniform of Caroline Rowan who served in the Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps during the Second World War (1939-45). The gilt 'pips' indicate that she held the rank of lieutenant. It is common for such small remnants of uniforms to survive as souvenirs of service.
220 nursing sisters served with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, forming part of the General Hospitals and Casualty Clearing Stations in the battle zones.
