Overview
This medal was made for participants of the 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames held in Wellington from 12 to 19 March 2011. It was the biggest festival of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex) sport and cultural events ever held in New Zealand. Over 1300 participants from 26 countries competed in 16 sporting competitions. Taking place alongside the sporting events was an arts and culture festival and a human rights conference.
The rainbow has been a popular symbol of the LGBTI community since the late 1970s.
