The 2nd Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles Regiment was formed in 1911 from mounted Volunteer units in the South Taranaki and Whanganui region.
The Regiment's badge features a Ponga (native tree fern), symbolising New Zealand. Queen Alexandra was the wife of King Edward VII.
