Overview

This badge was created to commemorate the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to New Zealand in 1953-54, and was worn by a young boy who saw her on tour in Devonport, Auckland.

The Royal Tour was a significant event in New Zealand. The recently-crowned Queen Elizabeth II was the first reigning monarch to visit New Zealand, and New Zealand's strong allegiance to Britain and the Commonwealth at that time meant that her tour attracted massive crowds.
