Overview
This wedding veil exemplifies mid 1960s wedding fashions with its fullness. It was worn by Judith Macdonald at her wedding in Masterton in 1965. The fabric roses are from her mother's wedding veil to help fulfill the traditional good luck saying: 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue'. The roses are 'something old' and represent the link with the bride's own family and the past. To symbolise this continuity, Judith chose to wear something from her mother's wedding.
Judith wore this veil with a beautiful full-skirted wedding dress made by Masterton dressmaker Mrs Ann Emerson. Judith remembers Mrs Emerson 'was a whiz' and made many of Masterton's wedding gowns in this period.
