1960s
Overview
This wedding dress exemplifies mid 1960s wedding fashions with its luxurious fabric and full skirt with train. The matelasse fabric features a raised pattern like quilting, and was possibly imported from France by the prestigious Thomson's Silk Shop in Wellington.
The bride, Judith Macdonald (née Dove), remembers choosing the fabric under the guidance of her mother. The dress was then made by Masterton dressmaker Mrs Ann Emerson. Judith recalls that Mrs Emerson 'was a whizz' and made many of Masterton's wedding gowns in this period.
Judith Dove married Stuart Macdonald on 18 December 1965 at 3pm at St Matthews Church, Masterton.
