Overview
This pendant was made by conscientious objector Morice Peacock while interned at Strathmore Detention Camp (between Rotorua and Taupo) during World War II. He made it for his young daughter Vonda.
Conscientious objectors
During World War II, conscientious objectors made many wooden objects to pass the time while interned at detention camps throughout New Zealand. Many of these objects were destined to be presents for family members. This pendant is a reminder of the sacrifices individuals and families made resisting the war.
