Overview
This Victory Medal was awarded to commemorate the war service of Private Barry Pfundt of the Auckland Infantry Battalion, NZEF. Pfundt was killed in action of 25 April 1915, the day that ANZAC and other Allied forces first landed on Gallipoli. The medal was sent to his parents in England after the war ended.
The Victory Medal was instituted in 1919 and was awarded to all those who saw active service in the forces of the British Empire and other Allied forces, and to the next-of-kin of those who died on active service.
