Overview
Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand, Cook Bicentenary Medal, 1969. Designed by James Berry, O.B.E., struck at the Royal Australian Mint. On obverse: a profile portrait of Cook in uniform, superimposed on a representation of the Pacific basin. Legend: "JAMES COOK CIRCUMNAVIGATOR OF THE GLOBE, EXPLORER OF THE PACIFIC." Below: "ROYAL NUMISMATIC SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND, 1969." On reverse: A representation of HMB Endeavour anchored in a bay, with bush and figures of Maori in foreground. Legend beneath: "H.M. BARK ENDEAVOUR/ COMPLEMENT 94 MEN/ 368 TONS BURDEN/ LENGTH 98 FEET/ BEAM 29 FEET. BICENTENARY OF JAMES COOK'S REDISCOVERY OF NEW ZEALAND. 1769 * 1969."
