Overview
Commemorating visit to New Zealand of American President L.B. Johnson.
This 1966 commemorative bronze Lyndon Johnson Asia-Pacific medal designed by Ralph Menconi and was struck by Medallic Art Co. NY., in honour of the presidential Asia-Pacific visit in 1966. It was presented by the president, Lyndon B. Johnson, to those involved with this trip. This is a scarcely encountered and historically significant medal. Ralph J. Menconi was a noted medal sculptor who received the Freedoms Foundation Award, the Michelangelo Award, and the title “Sculptor of the Year” in 1970. He also received the nickname “Sculptor of Presidents,” because of the thirty-six medal series of the presidents he created for Presidential Art medals.
