Overview
This 1914-15 Star was awarded to mark the war service of Trooper William Reginald Mitchell of the Wellington Mounted Rifles during World War I. Trooper Mitchell was killed in action in Palestine on 25 November 1917. The medal would have been sent to his widow shortly after the end of the war.
Establishment
The 1914-15 Star was awarded to all those who served in a theatre of war with British or Empire forces between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915. Large numbers, over 2 million, were issued for services in France, the Dardanelles, East and West Africa, and other theatres of war.
