Overview
This model of NZL 32 was made by respected American model maker Ken Gardiner. He made many America's Cup yacht models which are prized by America's Cup enthusiasts, maritime collectors and museums around the world. He built his models to scale, using drawings, brochures, files and photographs supplied by owners, and painted them with correct colours, names and graphics. His models are therefore correct historical documents of the vessels.
New Zealand and the America's Cup
NZL 32 was built and launched in 1994 by Team New Zealand. Led by Sir Peter Blake, NZL 32 and her crew successfully challenged for the America's Cup in San Diego, 1995. The America's Cup is the oldest sporting trophy in the world, and is the pinnacle of international competitive yachting. This was the first time New Zealand had won after competing since 1987.
