Overview
Edinburgh University bronze medallion awarded to Sir James Hector in his capacity as Chancelor of the University of New Zealand. One side features the university's coat of arms with a saltire, thistle and castle superimposed over a quatrefoil of thistle leaves. Around the circumference is text that reads: 'Universitats Academica Edinburgensis'. The reverse has a border of thistles around the circumference. The text in the centre reads: 'Universitas Academica Edinburgensis Annum Trecentesimum Feliciter Exactum Celebrat AD MDCCCLXXXIV (1884). This refers to the 300th anniversary of the the university which was granted a Royal charter in 1582. James Hector, was a graduate of this university.
