Overview
Three-quarter-length portrait of a youngish European man with dark hair and a moustache, standing beside a young seated European woman with very long hair. They are wearing a variety of taonga. The man is wearing a kahu huruhuru (feather cloak) with a square pattern, which he wears over one arm and under the other, and a piupiu (flax kilt). He is also wearing a long kuru pounamu (nephrite earring), and two feathers in his hair. His exposed arm is bare and he holds a finely carved hoe (paddle) by the tip of the blade, with the handle resting out of sight on the floor. The woman is wearing a kahu kiwi (kiwi feather cloak) with a taniko border around the bottom, a hei tiki (carved nephrite figure) as a pendant, and two huia feathers in her hair. She is holding a mere pounamu (nephrite edged weapon) in one hand.
