Overview
This is an example of an object made by a disabled soldier, sold on his behalf at the Disabled Soldiers's Shop in Wellington. The shop was in Farish Street off Manners Street and opened in 1932.
Paua jewellery, suede and leather goods, inlaid work, baskets, toys, and Maori carved items were sold at the shop. The production of craft for sale was a one of the few ways that some soldiers disabled during WWI could earn a living or supplement their pension.
