Overview
In 1935 Ray Weeber designed and made a wooden key for his sister Joyce's 21st 'coming of age' party. He shaped the lock into a '21' and painted the key in gold with Joyce's name in black Art Deco lettering. Party guests signed their names on the back of the key in pen. Several objects were kept by Joyce from that evening, and remained with her as she left home, married and began her own family with her husband Ron Megget. She kept a beautiful chocolate box, a few broken candles from her cake, telegrams with messages of congratulations, her mother's typewritten description of the party sent to the social pages of local newspapers, and finally, a newspaper cutting with an abridged version of her mother's description.
