Overview
This saddlecloth was formerly owned by Sergeant-Major Philip Putnam, a member of the Colonial Defence Force from 1864 (as a trumpeter), and a member of the Armed Constabulary from 1866. In 1874 he was appointed storekeeper in Wellington to the Public Works Department.
