Overview
Tïvaevae tātaura (appliqué and embroidered quilts) use a combination of stitching techniques.
Colour and delicacy are combined in this quilt by Tepaeru Tereora, a noted tïvaevae maker and leading member of the Wellington Cook Islands community.
Eight waterlilies surround a central pattern of green leaves. Around this central design is a garland of leaves, flowers, and buds. The plain green of the foliage is broken only by gold veins embroidered on the leaves. The detail of each flower, on the other hand, is embroidered in two or sometimes three colours. The multicoloured flowers stand out against the plain yellow background.
