This memorial banner honours 19 New Zealand soldiers who died during the First World War and were buried in the churchyard of St Mary's Church, Walton-on-Thmes.
During the war, troops from New Zealand were hospitalised in Walton-on-Thames, a town in South East England. Those who died are remembered by a memorial in the cemetery, and in St Mary's Church where an annual service of remembrance is held.
The banner was made or 'worked' by the patients of Walton-on-Thames. One soldier's name included incorrectly, 'Cox, W.' serial number 6/1848 refers to a William Fox.
