Gift of Patricia Blades, 2010
Patricia Lawrence was given this book by her parents, Harold and Mary Lawrence, for Christmas 1953. The gift coincided with the arrival of Queen Elisabeth II in New Zealand. The new Queen was the first reigning monarch to visit New Zealand.
Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey, London, on 2 June 1953. After the coronation, the procession took a circuitous 8 kilometre route back from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace. This allowed millions of spectators a glimpse of their monarch.
With the cut-outs from this book, Patricia was able to recreate a miniature version of the spectacular coronation procession.
