|Title||National Liberation Front flag|
Lowe, Jeremy (needleworker), 1967, Wellington
x 820mm (Length)
|Credit line||Gift of Jeremy Lowe, 2007|
This National Liberation Front, or 'Viet Cong' flag, was hand sewn by Jeremy Lowe with fabric purchased in Wellington, New Zealand.
He made it specifically for an anti-Vietnam War protest. It was one of three made for demonstrations during the visit of South Vietnam's Premier, Air Vice-Marshal Ky, to New Zealand in January 1967.
Jeremy was the Secretary of the Wellington Committee on Vietnam in 1969-70. The Committee had monthly meetings, produced regular newsletters and were involved in organising and participating in anti-Vietnam War protests.
