Overview

This brooch or pendant has been fashioned from a kiwi beak mounted in a 9 carot gold setting. The end cap features a loop for suspension and word 'Taihoa' and a gold band with 'GR'.

In the late 19th and early 20th century, New Zealand jewellers fashioned brooches, pendants and even hat pins out of a range of bird beaks, including kiwi, huia and kea.
