This ghagra choli was the first one worn by AarielNaidu to a wedding in 2009. Born in New Zealand to Fijian Indian parents, the suit represents Aariel's Indian cultural heritage which is an important part of Aariel's childhood and family life.

Aariel’s mother regularly speaks Hindi the children at home as well as teaching them Hindi songs. This experience relates to The University of Auckland’s Growing Up in New Zealand research. In their Now We Are Born, 2012 reportthe research findsthat 'parents were likely to be singing songs or telling stories to their children at least once a day'. Aariel's experience of hearing a combination of Hindi and English in the home represents the experience of 4% of the New Zealand population.
