Overview

This poster was created by the Student Volunteer Army to summon up its members for what was believed to be the final cleanup after the 22 February 2011 Canterbury earthquake. Within two weeks, the 13 June earthquake had hit, followed not long after by huge winter snowfalls. The students still had a long way to go before they could rest.

The poster is a clever reworking of an American Second World War poster (1941-45) which featured the same image, but called for women to enlist in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps.

The Student Volunteer Army began on 6 September 2010 to help cleanup after the first Canterbury earthquake on 4 September 2010. The students helped clear silt from Christchurch properties and brought much needed support and cheer to inhabitants, particularly the elderly.
