Overview

This T-shirt was co-organised and designed by Aucklander Deborah Kelland who wanted to create something wearable (and fashionable) that showed people's support for Christchurch after the deadly earthquake of 22 February 2011.

The T-shirt is black because she felt it was synonymous with New Zealand, and the heart symbolises love, support and affection. New Zealanders were urged to buy it, or wear anything black on National Black T-Shirt Day, Friday 25 March 2011. All profits after costs were channelled through registered charities. At least 10,000 T-shirts were sold with $150,000 raised.

This particular T-shirt was purchased by Mr Eneliko Ioane in his job as a Logistics Technician with Pacific Blue, Virgin Australia. The Christchurch office organised selling the T-shirts throughout the Virgin Australia network. Mr Ioane wore his at home in Brisbane, where he got many compliments and words of support.
