This American poster from the Second World War evokes two ideas - strength through unity, as envisaged by the Declaration by United Nations (signed on 1 January 1942 by 26 Allied nations). And all war workers are heroes, not just those in uniform.
The flags featured in the poster represent some of the 26 signatories to the United Nations Declaration. New Zealand's flag indicates both its importance as a member of the United Nations and American awareness and appreciation of New Zealand's war efforts.
