Moon, July 6th

Moon, July 6th  1965
crayon on paper, 190 x 139 mm

In the middle of 1965, Rita Angus became fascinated by the changing form of the moon as it passed a series of planets. She rang friends in excitement – ‘Go and look at the moon!’

Angus began to make sketches at night, noting its colour, shape, and atmospheric effects. Her moon sketches and paintings continued into the following year.
