Quentin Angus  1942-44
oil on canvas, 505 x 401 mm
Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, on loan from the Rita Angus Estate

Rita Angus had a special bond with her brother Quentin, who was seventeen years younger than her. Quentin was born with cerebral palsy and did not walk until he was nine.

Rita took a keen interest in Quentin’s education, encouraging her parents to send him to boarding school to help him gain his independence. He later became a successful lawyer who played a vital role in furthering opportunities for people with disabilities.
