On an early morning bus trip to Napier, Rita Angus watched the fog shroud the landscape. She made the first sketches for this painting there and then.

Angus wanted to create a sense of movement in Fog, Hawke’s Bay. She suggests the sensation of travelling through the landscape – buildings glimpsed from different angles, sudden changes in the weather, and vehicles disappearing into the distance.
