Angel
Angel 1969
oil on hardboard, 1030 x 605 mm
Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, on loan from the Rita Angus Estate
Rita Angus planned this work on a small piece of paper and then copied the image onto a large board, working square by square. Next, she sketched the outlines of the angel in thin blue paint.
Many changes and a great deal of work would have followed, but this is as much as Angus was able to accomplish before her final illness.
